Guilin TEDQUAL: an international quality model for tourism education
UNWTO ST-EP programme with the Guilin Institute of Tourism, 2006–10
The challenge
Guilin sought to raise its tourism and hotel management education to international standards and become a regional centre of excellence.
What I did
- Led design and management of the TEDQUAL quality programme across curriculum and teaching practice.
- Coordinated international experts and partner institutions.
- Supported a published research article arising from the project (per Prof Adele Ladkin’s reference).
Outcome
- UNWTO described it as “one of the UNWTO’s most ambitious and successful projects”.
“One of the UNWTO’s most ambitious and successful projects”UNWTO reference
Lessons
- Long-term partnership with one institution allows deeper change than one-off training.
To confirm: specific deliverables and student numbers.
